The Burdass Family Have been farming sheep on the Yorkshire Wolds for over 80 years and their methods have stayed pretty much the same through out that time.

Our prize winning lambs are outside eating grass and turnips, happily wandering around letting nature take it's course. "you are what you eat" as they say!

For the last seven years Ian Burdass has cross bred Texel and Suffolk breeds to produce a large lean carcase which is tender and full of flavour. He has created a closed flock. That entails keeping our females to breed from the following year, this allows us to trace from start to finish where your lamb has come from, a concept which has become very popular of late.

Ian and Zoe married in 2004 and have a daughter. The business of selling lamb as a retail concern was created in 2006. It became very apparent when all Ian's lambs were being sent to France and Belgium that the Brit's were missing out!

The supermarkets were filled with New Zealand Lamb and the prices were through the roof, which did not compare to the prices the farmer recived for all the care and hard work it takes to produce a fantastic flock.

Add that to the possibilty of ceasing to produce lamb altogether Ian was not a happy shepherd. During 2006 Zoe helped to set up and run Burton Agnes Farmers Food Store and that experience inspired the creation of Burdass Lamb Ltd. She decided that it was high time to awaken the british public's LUST for Burdass Lamb.

L.U.S.T stands for Lamb U Should Taste, from the initial interest shown, the business was started and thanks to local media attention the business grew rapidly within the first few months, with restaurants and shops all starting to sell our products Burdass Lamb continued to grow and grow!

Ian was brought up on the family farm and attended St Peters school in York, followed by Agricultural College. Zoe however is not from farming stock! With a desire to act she attained a degree in drama and set design, this led to work with Yorkshire Television's Heartbeat series and amazingly led to a fabulous career in sales and marketing! Following that Zoe delved into the catering industry and put all that experience to good use and now runs Burdass Lamb.

So aside from providing whole and half lambs to your door, we supply local shops and restaurants, giving customers the opportunity to try a little of our lamb before filling up their freezers.

Throughout the year we have found that our barbeque selections have been extermely popular from sausages and koftas to butterflied legs and marinated steaks.

It is the hope of Burdass Lamb that anything which may trigger your culnery imagination, can be supplied for consumption.

Happy Shopping.
